Effective Theory for Heavy Quarks
In this series of lectures the basic ideas of the 1/mQ expansion in QCD (mQ is the mass of a heavy quark) are outlined. Applications to exclusive and inclusive decays are given.
متن کاملPotential NRQCD: an effective theory for heavy quarkonium
Within an effective field theory framework we study heavy-quark–antiquark systems with a typical distance between the heavy quark and the antiquark smaller than 1/ΛQCD. A suitable definition of the potential is given within this framework, while non-potential (retardation) effects are taken into account in a systematic way. We explore different physical systems. Model-independent results on the...
متن کاملHeavy Quarks: Effective Theories, Lattice and Models *
Heavy-light mesons, heavy quarkonium and doubly heavy baryons are briefly discussed. Effective field theories (EFTs) of QCD based on the heavy quark mass expansion 1/mQ provide a unified framework to describe all three systems. They produce a number of modelindependent results and simplify non-perturbative (lattice) calculations. Nevertheless, models are still very useful to obtain inexpensive ...
متن کاملEffective Field Theory for Ultrasoft Momenta in NRQCD and NRQED
Two particle non-relativistic bound states in QCD (QED) have, at least, three well separated scales: the mass m (hard scale), the typical relative momentum |~ p| (soft scale) and the typical bound state energy E (ultrasoft scale). This allows to introduce a hierarchy of effective field theories when sequentially integrating out each of these scales. After integrating out the hard scale m QCD (Q...
متن کاملEffective Heavy Quark Theory
We show how heavy quark effective theory, including 1 MQ corrections, may be matched onto dynamical quark models by making a specific choice of Kμ,m and vμ in the pμ = mvμ + Kμ expansion. We note that Wigner rotations of heavy quark spins arise at O(p2/m2) in non-relativistic models but at O(ΛQCD/MQ) or O(velocity − transfer) in HQET and so are necessary for a consistent treatment. May 1992 FEC...
